Botulinum toxin – filling wrinkles

Botulinum toxin - filling wrinkles

Botulinum toxin is a natural neurotoxin that works by blocking nerve conduction, and as a consequence – immobilization of the muscles into which it was injected. Treatment with the use of botulinum toxin relies on its precise administration (injection), thanks to which it only acts selectively on muscles responsible for the formation of expression lines on the skin: other muscles function as always. In this way, we obtain a spectacular effect of smoothing and softening furrows and wrinkles as well as visual rejuvenation of facial features.

Indications for the procedure

The indications for the procedure with the use of botulinum toxin include:

  • deep wrinkles in the glaze area – the so-called lion’s wrinkle,
  • mimic wrinkles around the eyes – popularly called crow’s feet,
  • vertical and horizontal forehead wrinkles.

The course of the procedure

The procedure takes about 15 minutes – it involves taking the solution into a syringe, disinfecting the skin and injecting the toxin in several points of the muscles responsible for the formation of furrows and wrinkles. It is performed without anesthesia – pain is minimal. Botulinum toxin action becomes visible after about a week, while the full effect is achieved after 2 weeks.

Preparation for the procedure

The treatment does not require special preparations – although you should follow the doctor’s recommendations in this matter. It is only important to give up alcohol on the day the injection is done.

Post-treatment recommendations

The subject should not bend or lie down for about 3-4 hours. Do not rub or massage the places where botulinum toxin has been injected for a day after the procedure – what prevents from moving outside the given muscle. You should also refrain from effort, physical activity (sports, intense physical work). For at least one day after the procedure it is not allowed to drink alcohol, use the sauna and swimming pool.

The duration of the treatment effects

Botulinum toxin usually remains in the body for several months. Period of persistence of the action of the botulinum toxin depends on the individual characteristics of the patient. Usually the effect is visible around 3-6 months, and then the muscles gradually regain their mobility. Importantly, the treatment can be repeated many times, and each subsequent administration extends the duration of the results of its operation. Thanks to this, subsequent treatments can be performed at increasing intervals of time.

In our clinic, treatments with the use of botulinum toxin are performed by experienced people such as aesthetic medicine specialists and dermatologists.

Contraindications

The following are the contraindications for treatments with botulinum toxin:

  • neuromuscular diseases,
  • autoimmune diseases,
  • antibiotic therapy with aminoglycosides,
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding.
