Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most frequently performed plastic surgery procedures- guaranteeing the achievement of a desired size and shape.

Bust is a synonym of femininity. Unfortunately, many women struggle with aesthetic issues that cause complexes in them – especially since the appearance of the breasts is influenced by many factors like:

• age,
• past pregnancies,
• breast-feeding,
• enlargement or atrophy of the breast gland,
• sagging skin and subcutaneous tissue
• or serious diseases (e.g. oncological).

All these factors cause unfavorable changes in their appearance and firmness. Additionally, very few women can boast a naturally symmetrical breasts. It serves to rebuild the shape of the bust disturbed by the above-mentioned factors, degenerative changes in the mammary gland or underdevelopment of the breast.

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure preceded by a consultation with a specialist -plastic surgeon who qualifies a given patient for the procedure, first by the conversation about the desired effect and – possibly correcting the requirements which it seems unrealistic or harmful to health (e.g. too big implants).

It should be remembered that the role of the doctor is not to persuade to perform the procedure, but to examine the patient, listening to her needs, and presenting such a proposal for bust correction that according to the most aesthetic and natural effect, consistent with the proportions of the body.

Once the type and volume of the implant has been determined, the scope of the surgical intervention is planned and discussed as well as post-operative care. The date of the procedure and its price are also agreed. Additionally, during the interview
the doctor asks the patient about illnesses, current health problems, medications taken or any allergies she has.

Breast augmentation – like any surgical intervention – requires absolute compliance with the recommendations, medical examinations and performing tests indicated by a specialist, such as:

• EKG,
• blood count,
• electrolyte level,
• blood coagulation system (APTT, PT, INR),
• glucose level,
• blood group,
• and any other tests ordered by the surgeon.

It is important to remember that before any surgery under general anesthesia:

• give up smoking – at least 3 weeks before the procedure,
• stop taking acetylsalicylic acid-containing drugs (such as aspirin) and drugs that may affect blood clotting (including herbal medicinal products) – at least 2 weeks before surgery,
• stop taking painkillers, such as paracetamol, pyralgine, ketonal, ibuprofen, naproxen – at least 3 days before surgery),
• come on an empty stomach – do not eat at least 6 hours before the procedure.

Breast augmentation surgery is performed under anesthesia – a plastic surgeon can make cuts underneath a breast, around the areola or under an armpit. Place of access and insertion of the implant (intramuscularly, subglandular) is determined in advance with the patient. When choosing, the doctor takes into account her preferences, as well as anatomical structure.

Breast augmentation is a procedure after which patients may experience symptoms such as: disorders of sensations, burning, warmth, stinging, itching, chest tightness, fluid transfer – these are normal phenomena that will subside over time.

All problems should be reported to the attending physician during the follow-up visits terma are previoualy fixed – usually they are carried out in the 1st, 3rd and 12th month after the surgery. Also be reckoned with swelling and bruising which will disappear over time – in the event of swelling, it may take time even a few weeks.

For this reason, it is especially important to avoid excessive loads, not to raise arms and avoid sexual activity, especially since manipulations (oppression, elation breasts, etc.) during this period which may lead to the displacement of the implants and the formation of bust.

Also, you shouldn’t get the incision site getting wet for about 2 weeks. Bathing in a tub or Jacuzzis are possible after about a month after the operation. Avoid sudden movements or driving a car (the implant may stay damaged e.g. by seat belts).

For about a month and a half, the patient has to put on an appropriate shaping bra. After about 2-3 weeks massage the scars using specialized preparations recommended by the doctor.

Until it is completely healed, you should also not expose the scars to the sun, if so there may occur a permanent discoloration.

You should also stop smoking for the time indicated by your doctor – because it causes constriction of the blood vessels, which reduces blood and oxygen supply to the incision site, and as a result, it hinders wound healing.
