Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is an enlarged male nipple that occurs as a result of glandular tissue growth, fatty and fibrous. There is also an enlargement of the nipple-areola together with its greater pigmentation. Physiological gynecomastia is associated with puberty and hormonal changes during this time – it should disappear after this period. However, sometimes such a condition can become permanent and lead to serious psychological and cosmetic problems. Gynecomastia treatment is designed to remove abnormal tissue and restore the correct shape of the thoracic cage.

Medical consultation

The treatment is preceded by a consultation with a doctor, during which:

  • a medical interview and examination are carried out,
  • the scope of surgical activities and postoperative care is discussed, potential complications are discussed,
  • an operation date is set.

Examination before surgery

Before the gynecomastia procedure, the patient should perform the following tests:

  • test of bleeding and blood clotting time (coagulation system),
  • morphology with smear,
  • anti Hbs,
  • anti HCV,
  • total urine,
  • creatinine,
  • ionogram,
  • fasting glucose
  • blood group.

In some cases, your doctor may order additional, other tests.

The course of the procedure

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the degree of gynecomastia, a plastic surgeon can use one of three surgical methods: surgery, liposuction, liposuction along with surgical removal of pathological tissue. Scars will be located within the areola, sometimes with a transition to the skin on the side of the nipple. The entire procedure usually takes 1–2 hours.

Convalescence

After surgery, swelling may persist for several weeks. . For 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure, you should pay special attention to a calm lifestyle. It is advisable to avoid excessive loads and not to raise your arms. After about 2-3 weeks you should massage the scar, or use scar preparations, such as Cepan.

Postoperative recommendations

After liposuction, the patient has to wear compression garments for 6 weeks, thanks to which the swelling is minimized- and the best possible tissue modeling takes place. The presence of bruises on the skin is possible , swelling and local hypersensitivity and sensory disturbances – these symptoms usually last for several weeks.
