Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure performed under local or general anesthesia, involving the removal of fatty tissue distorting the silhouette through small skin incisions. Usually, this method eliminates excessive fat from the buttocks, hips, abdomen, thighs, but also knees, arms, and in the area of the face: chin and cheeks.

Liposuction is often combined with other procedures – mainly plastic surgeries, thanks to which it is possible to enhance their effect. Liposuction is recommended for people who are thin or not very obese who would like to get rid of fat from a specific area of the body – such patients achieve the best treatment results. However, beneficial results can also be achieved with obese people – reducing their total body fat will help them lose weight further. Thanks to liposuction, it is possible not only to model the shape of the body, but also to level it unevenness in the skin accompanying cellulitis (the so-called orange peel).

Areas of the body to be treated

Liposuction is performed throughout the body:

  • arms,
  • back,
  • belly,
  • hips,
  • buttocks,
  • knees,
  • face: chin, cheeks.

Before the surgery

Before the procedure, there is a consultation with the doctor, during which he conducts medical history with the patient, illnesses, constantly taken medications, etc. The patient’s expectations and potential side effects are then discussed. A range of surgical activities and postoperative care are also planned.

The patient is also asked to perform the following tests:

  • tests of bleeding time and blood clotting (coagulation system),
  • morphology with smear,
  • blood groups,
  • general urine,
  • creatinine,
  • ECG,
  • anti Hbs,
  • anti HCV,
  • ionogram,
  • fasting glucose
  • other tests prescribed by your doctor.

NOTE: before the procedure, the patient must be 18 years of age, and the date of the operation you cannot fall during menstruation.

The course of the procedure

Liposuction is usually performed under local anesthesia (using the so-called pharmacological sedation) or in general. The doctor makes small incisions on the skin and then injects adipose tissue with an anesthetic and reduces bleeding. The next step is breaking down the fat with a special apparatus and then removing its excess, leaving a smooth surface. One treatment allows for the safe removal of approx 3.5 liters of fat.

Postoperative recommendations

After liposuction, the patient has to wear compression garments for 6 weeks, thanks to which it minimizes swelling – and the best possible tissue modeling takes place. The presence of bruisesis possible, swelling and local hypersensitivity and sensory disturbances – these symptoms usually last for several weeks.
